School Transport

Kent County Council is ending direct transport for post-16 SEND students from September 2026, moving families onto Personal Transport Budgets (PTB). East Kent Taxis provides safe, consistent, door-to-door transport to Canterbury College and other educational settings across East Kent — fully aligned with your Personal Transport Budget. PTB accepted • Enhanced DBS-checked drivers • Same driver every day • Fixed weekly rate.

What the September 2026 KCC Changes Mean for You

From September 2026, Kent County Council is ending its direct provision of post-16 SEND transport. Eligible families will instead receive a Personal Transport Budget (PTB) — a cash allocation to arrange their own transport provider. This puts the responsibility on parents and carers to find a safe, reliable service in time for the new term. East Kent Taxis has built its school transport service specifically around the needs of SEND families, offering fixed weekly pricing aligned to typical PTB values, consistent drivers and door-to-door collection across East Kent.

How East Kent Taxis Helps

We provide itemised quotes that you can submit to KCC alongside your PTB paperwork. Our weekly rates are fixed and transparent, our drivers hold enhanced DBS certificates, and we assign the same driver to your young person every day for consistency and peace of mind.

How It Works

  1. You receive your PTB letter from KCC – Kent County Council contacts you with your child’s transport budget allocation and start date.
  2. Contact us for a free quote – we’ll provide a clear weekly rate covering door-to-door transport to your young person’s college or setting.
  3. Confirm and plan your September start – we agree routes, times and any specific requirements before the new term begins.
  4. Safe, reliable transport every term day – the same driver, the same time, the same friendly face, every day your young person attends.

Why East Kent Families Choose Us

  • Enhanced DBS & Safeguarding – all drivers hold enhanced DBS certificates and are experienced supporting young people with SEND.

  • True Door-to-Door – collection from your front door directly to the college entrance, with no shared stops.
  • PTB-Aligned Pricing – fixed weekly rates structured to work within KCC Personal Transport Budget allocations, with itemised invoicing.
  • Trained Passenger Assistants – available on request, experienced with autism, epilepsy, diabetes and other medical or support needs.
  • Canterbury College Specialists – daily routes to Canterbury College, plus East Kent College campuses and specialist SEND settings.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I pay using a Personal Transport Budget?

Yes. We provide itemised weekly quotes and monthly invoicing compatible with KCC PTB records. Many families use our quote directly when submitting their PTB transport arrangement to the council.

My young person has autism – how do you support consistency?

We assign one dedicated driver to each student – same face, same time, same route, every day. Before transport begins, we recommend a brief pre-journey introduction so your young person feels comfortable from day one.

Which educational settings do you serve?

Canterbury College (our most common destination), East Kent College’s Broadstairs, Dover and Folkestone campuses, MidKent College, and a range of specialist SEND educational settings across Kent. Contact us if your setting isn’t listed.

How much does it cost?

Pricing is based on your home address and destination. We provide a fixed, transparent weekly rate, and many routes fall within or close to standard KCC PTB allocations.

When should I book ahead of September 2026?

Now. Routes across East Kent are being secured ahead of the summer, so we strongly recommend contacting us today to provisionally hold a place before demand peaks.

What if the driver is ill or unable to drive?

We have a pool of DBS-checked cover drivers. If your regular driver is unavailable, we send a cover driver and notify you by phone or WhatsApp as early as possible, usually before 6am on the day.

Do you provide passenger assistants for medical or additional needs?

Yes – fully trained Passenger Assistants are available on request, experienced with autism, epilepsy, diabetes and other medical or support needs. Let us know the specifics when you request your quote so we can match the right support.
